Professor Peabody

Went to the Peabody Library yesterday for History of Prints. OH MY GOD.

What an amazing experience. Maybe I'm a total nerd, but it is one of the most beautiful, amazing places I've ever been in Baltimore. I got to touch an original copy of the NUREMBERG CHRONICLE from 1493, peruse original copies of Muybridge's locomotion photographs, and interact with William Morris's Works of Chauser published by his own Kelmscott press in the 1800s. It was so awesome to be able to handle these historical text and images in sort of surreal sanctum that is the Peabody Library. The best part of the trip was the fact that we, the students, were encouraged to handle the books, flip through the pages (gently) and learn from their texts in a library setting. If we were to look at these beautiful books and prints in a museum setting, we would simply have to admire them as objects, not interact with the books as they were intended.

Thanks Paul and Trudi for such an awesome trip!

on my wishlist

The Vans Abby is really rad. I think the pearl color is particularly sweet. To be honest, I'm just looking for a cute shoe that's hip, aesthetically pleasing, not a sneaker per say, that I can skate in. I'm probably going to fall either way (it's been a while), but why not look good while hitting the pavement.

This is going to be fun.

Max Weinberg, plz be there

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band are playing their usual pre-tour rehersal gig at Conventional Hall in Asbury Park tonight and I think there was one last night too. Tickets went on sale the 20th, and I'm pretty sure they're impossible to get but if you can, get them, and go. If I was home and 100 dollars richer, I would have bought one.

I've got my ticket for May 23rd, and could not be any happier. As previously divulged, I love Bruce Springsteen.

My cousin Charlie has informed me that Max Weinberg might not be playing every show on the tour- which is upsetting. This Rolling Stone article tells me that his son Jay might sub (he has a metal band- HA). There's a video embedded in the article of the band + Jay Weinberg performing Born To Run, and I don't hate it.
But, I would be pretty damn disappointed if Max Weinberg did not play my first Springsteen show at Giant's Stadium -excuse me- The Izod Center.
Did I mention, Jay Weinberg, is my age?! Actually- a year younger. How crazy is that!? To be 19 years old, and play packed stadiums with hundreds of people who love the band your in, watching you and singing every word to every song- Nuts!

FINALLY!

I'm starting to recover. I had surgery on the first day of spring break, and have either been in a ton of pain or in medicated lala land since. But today, I'm actually feeling so much better! Which is really excellent because I have so much work to do before heading back to Baltimore. Also on a positive note, I won't have to wear thick black RayBan's every day in order to see!

I'm off to write a Modernism paper, I actually like Henri Matisse a whole lot. Claire and her mom took me to see this great show at the BMA before spring break, and it was a lovely experience. (Also one of the guys from WitchHat was a guard?) It was so nice to be able to see in an almost tangible way how the art I'd been studying in class really changed the way people at the time were seeing things. I was so impressed with the prints they had in the exhibition. It only made it worse that I wasn't able to get into a printmaking class this semester. AND I AM A CONCENTRATOR!! But, that's okay. I'll just take a bunch next semester.

into the abyss

Spring Break, WOOOOOOOO!

Things still need to get done and will get done, but it's nice to take it easy for a bit.

There is something so familiar and comforting about taking Amtrak from destination to destination. The subtle rocking that accompanies the low hum of the train's rushing are almost surreal. Sitting in a soft seat and peering out the window as eastern seaboard rushes past is really wonderful. I'm so happy it doesn't make sense for me to take the bus.

There's a really great show on National Geographic Channel right now called Into The Abyss. It's about finding new species and their development in a 20,00 foot gorge in the Celebes Sea. It's so mind boggling that so many of these beautiful creatures have been living since the ice age. I think we could learn a lot from what's going on below the surface.

Here's a great video clip that was on the Nat Geo site.

How rad are those pigmy sea horses!? That shrimp that can see beyond UV Rays, so gnarly. I'm perpetually inspired and surprised by how beautiful and fascinating these things are.
