new work coming soon

It's really great when you google image search pomeranian puppy and a photo comes up with a beautifully designed chair a cute little furry guy standing on it.

Currently in the thick of finals (and by the thick I mean rewriting a paper on American scene painters and writing a paper on American liberalism (I think?)) I would like to put images of my final projects up on the website before they hit the blog, but who knows when that will happen. For now, I'm just trying to make some interactive PDFs about a fictional iPhone app while watching Mr. Deeds and drinking hot chocolate. This weather is a total bummer.

Let's Get Radical.

What an awesome/gnarly/busy weekend!

- had my first real interview at a real company with real art directors in new york city and it was a real positive experience (!)

- explored Brooklyn on my own two feet

- finally got out the Fool's Gold office in Williamsburg to hang out with my brother and met Dust La Rock, he's super nice and super talented!

- Walked allllllll the way from Metropolitan and Lorimer to River Street to get to Mollusk Surf Shop, which was a really rad experience. I mean walking was walking, but it was great to get finally get out the shop. I've been reading the blog since I discovered it at the beginning of the semester, and all the dudes who were there were so friendly and knowledgeable. I hung out with them for a while, read the Leroy Grannis book, asked questions (in all my years of coastal living I'd never seen a swallowtail board , maybe I just wasn't paying attention, and was baffled when I saw them on the blog all the time, of course I inquired), and enjoyed an afternoon beer. Their hospitality was really refreshing, thanks guys! It was real surreal to walk out of the shop onto a deck and then back into the city, not onto a boardwalk.

- Attempted to find the Cinders Gallery, but failed, I'm probably just goofy and walked right in front of it

- saw some good friends

- hung out with my parents and genuinely enjoyed their company

- suffered from car failure on the highway and did not make it to family easter, but still managed to have a good time

- got up at 4:30 this morning to catch the 5:58 train back to baltimore, and have been going all day since

OH! I FINALLY bought Big Wednesday at Mollusk -- total win.

on my wishlist

The Vans Abby is really rad. I think the pearl color is particularly sweet. To be honest, I'm just looking for a cute shoe that's hip, aesthetically pleasing, not a sneaker per say, that I can skate in. I'm probably going to fall either way (it's been a while), but why not look good while hitting the pavement.

This is going to be fun.

I Don't Wanna Talk About It

Lately, I just want to go for a drive. I have all these really great memories of being in the passenger seat of my dad's old truck with the windows down listening to this Rod Stewart cassette. There is something so soothing about travel. I like the feeling of the wind against my skin. Looking ahead at the open road and not looking back. I like to have the opportunity just to be contemplative. I like being able enjoy things just as they are happening.

Also, this just might be one of my favorite album covers of all time.

Practicalities

The wheels of my bike have dry-rot, and I think I should probably replace them before going for a ride, or even think about using it as a serious mode of transportation.

I know it would probably be really impractical, because you know I go to school in a city, and need to carry things other than a thumb drive BUT I really want to get a longboard. (FUN FACT I skated in middle school, poorly, but I did it none the less)

I think this one from Koastal is pretty beautiful.

There is nothing soft I can eat with a meal plan here, and my post-surgery mouth is still pretty painful. Lame.
Spring Break wisdom teeth removal. Lame.

Having your mom make you mashed potatoes and bring you orange sherbet all week. Awesome.

A Strawberry Flavor Burst would be so good right now.

Today, I'm just busy doing nothing.

recently and regularly

I've been looking at and thinking about a lot of Edward Hopper paintings.
Most specifically Rooms by the Sea and Second Story Sunlight .
I have more to say about them, and my affection for Hopper, but I am too drained at the moment to be remotely eloquent, about anything.

been a while

So I haven't really blogged since I've been staying at my parent's house. I've been working nonstop, going out, and sleeping. In no particular order. But anyway, I have a feeling a good post will come soon. I'd like to catalogue all the cool stuff procured during the holidays. I got a new camera, so watch for documentation!

For now, I'll leave you with some Frankie and Annette, as I am real tired of it being cold.

I really love type.

In my TypeOne class, we had to develop a book that highlighted five fonts we were particularly drawn to in a unified manner. I'm proud of my final solution.

They're inkjet prints on a slightly textured bright salmon colored paper. The binding is a heavy weight black paper with a subtle speckled pattern.

Avant Garde and Lubalin Graph are amazing.

But anyway, here are the photos. I'm going to post my type final in the near future, stay tuned!

hirshhorn podcast

I've been dying to go to a museum lately. I really wanted to get to the MoMA (my favorite museum) when I went home for Thanksgiving break, but just didn't have the time. I was thinking it might be nice to go to the Hirshhorn before going back up north for winter break.
The museum itself is really beautiful, and I very much enjoy their collection. Last year I went to see the Morris Lewis exhibition, and it was really inspiring.

But anyway, I was browsing their website (again in avoidance of paper writing, even though I've got a solid thesis and a few pages) and found out they have podcasts! I downloaded a few of them but haven't gotten a chance to listen.  LINK

Lately I just want to listen to jazz, probably because I'm feeling overwhelmed with finals and anticipating not being in baltimore for a month, so it's helping to keep me in a possitive, focused creative mindset. I'm particularly enjoying Art Tatum.  Also, how good is this album cover?
